Engine

Our new UK built Subaru Impreza Type−25 has been over a year in development and sees us make significant performance gains from the previous model. In order to produce the power we wanted, work began testing new engine components early last year. Fortunately, at the same time, Cosworth Inc. had seen some of our press features in US magazines and contacted us during late Summer 2005. They were looking at new Subaru products and wondered if there was anything they could help with. We sent them the previous Type−25 and Spec C engine components which were tested and evaluated.

Work began in late 2005 to adapt these new products for use in the Japanese based Impreza range and by the end of the year we had a new prototype running with these new parts.

We have also used our race car program to help test these components to the limit in a competitive environment.

Performance has risen substantially from the original Type-25:

  • 415bhp @ 6,500rpm (400bhp from 5,800rpm − 7,000rpm)
  • 570Nm / 420lbft @ 3,800rpm (300lbft from 3,000rpm)
  • 8,000rpm Redline
  • 304bhp/ton
  • 0−60mph in 3.7sec
  • 0−100mph in 8.7sec
  • 157mph limited top speed (175mph gearing, taller gearing also under review)
